Beautiful, technical, and panoramic ridge of the Northern Grigna (2,410 m)
The Piancaformia Ridge winds sinuously up to the summit of the Northern Grigna and, during the winter season, represents a must-do of winter alpinism: technical, long, and offering breathtaking views, suspended between lake and mountains. The difficulties of the Piancaformia Ridge, with 600 metres of elevation gain along the ridge and about 1,200 metres total, vary greatly depending on the amount and condition of the snow.
The route may feature sharp snow ridges alternating with easy mixed sections, offering an engaging ascent with distinctly alpine characteristics and great satisfaction.
PROGRAMME:
Departure from Cainallo (1,300 m), above Esino Lario (LC). Follow the trail leading to Bocchetta di Prada (1,620 m) and the Alpini Chapel. From here, continue along the ridgeline and, after a traverse, reach the saddle connecting Rifugio Bogani and Rifugio Bietti-Buzzi, then continue up the slope that leads to the start of the true ridge.
The ascent of the Piancaformia Ridge now involves several ups and downs and short rocky sections. Passing Bocchetta dei Guzzi (2,160 m), continue along the most delicate and exposed section, eventually reaching the summit of the Northern Grigna, where Rifugio Brioschi is located.
